How the one-on-one
system works

Ello is tailored to your child’s interests and learning needs. In the first session, your child reads a short story aloud as Ello listens. As the pages get harder, Ello pinpoints exactly where they are. It notes words they read confidently and exactly where they stumbled. And it starts learning about what excites them, whether it’s dinosaurs or pink princess unicorns.

Your child opens the app and sees their Quest screen with a daily, personalized plan. It might include a book to read aloud, a phonics lesson, a math puzzle, a story they'll create together. Ello chooses each one based on what your child mastered yesterday, what still needs practice, and what they'll love today. No two days look the same. No two children see the same screen.

Ello hears the confidence on one word, the hesitation on the next, and responds the way a teacher beside them would: a hint when they're stuck, a different approach when needed, a cheer to celebrate. This is possible because Ello built and patented speech recognition specifically for children, designed for the way kids actually talk.

Ello’s activities follows the structure skilled teachers use: Ello first shows the concept, then practices it with your child, and finally lets them try on their own. This is what educators call "I Do, We Do, You Do." Reading instruction is built on the Science of Reading. Math is aligned to Common Core and grounded in decades of research on how children learn. Your child picks the characters, the world, the adventure. Ello helps build a real story around it, at their grade level. Not only does this help foster an interest in reading, this also teaches narrative structure and creative writing skills while they're having fun creating.

The Parent Dashboard shows you what your child worked on, which skills they've mastered, and what Ello is focusing on next. When they hit a milestone, like cracking a new reading level or mastering a tricky math concept, you'll know. So you can bring it up at dinner.

Every activity earns stars, and harder ones earn more. Your child spends them in the Prize Store on branches, decorations, and backgrounds for their own Learning Tree. The tree grows taller with every quest, making progress visible in a way they actually care about. The system is calibrated so they feel a win in their very first session.

A good teacher knows when to redirect and when to pause. Ello’s AI works the same way. Conversations pass through safety filters in real time. If your child brings up something sensitive, Ello gently steers them back. If it is more serious, Ello stops the session and encourages your child to talk to a trusted adult. You get notified over text.
